Amon Amarth
Dá se říci, že Švédové AMON AMARTH od svého prvního oficiálního počinu "Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds" z roku 1996 nevydali vyloženě slabou nahrávku. Od tohoto kultovního EP skupina stihla nahrát ještě dalších šest dlouhohrajících desek a komu by to přece jen nestačilo, tak navíc letos přihodila DVD "Wrath of the Norsemen". Ne každému se daří udržet po celá ta dlouhá léta vysokou laťku kvality při takovém tempu vydávání alb. Za nejdůležitější však považuji fakt, že skupině jejich entuziasmus, i přes časté koncertování, dosud vydržel, ba co víc, jejich aktuální studiový počin "With Oden On Our Side" předčil veškerá má očekávání.
O tom, že kapela svůj zdroj inspirace nalezla v severní mytologii, nemůže být pochyb, neboť aura udatného vikinského válečnictví či pohanské mystiky se rapidně infiltrovala do všech nahrávek AMON AMARTH. Po vzedmutí zájmu o starogermánskou tématiku v metalovém žánru v polovině 90. let začaly být pojmy jako Odin, Valhalla, Thor, Ásgard, Ragnarök, Yggdrasil, Fenri či Loki velice "In". Bohužel mnohé spolky pouze zneužily této popularity, neboť vše severské se stalo výhodným prodejním artiklem. Ovšem z AMON AMARTH žádný kalkul necítím, jejich image jim prostě žeru.
Již při poslechu první vypalovačky "Valhall Awaits Me" se přede mnou rozprostře bitevní vřava, tisíce mrtvých zkrvavených těl, nad nimiž se vznáší rej čarokrásných valkýr, doprovázející duše udatných vikinských válečníků do síně tam nahoře. Atmosféra CD "With Oden On Our Side" je nesmírně sugestivní, mnohem více něž na minulých počinech "Versus The World" či "Fate of Norns". Svým způsobem se kapela vrací až ke kořenům MCD "Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds" či k prvnímu dlouhohrajícímu majstrštyku "Once Sent from the Golden Hall ".
AMON AMARTH nyní znějí více majestátně a to díky většímu důrazu na melodické linky. Komu scházely až esoterické kytarové vyhrávky prvních alb v kombinaci s kulometnými bicími či klenutá sólíčka, na tomto CD si jich užije dosytosti. Nad tím vším se jako mocný Odin vznáší Johanův šťavnatý growling, nezřídka se katapultující do havraních skřehotů. Na druhou stranu se nemusíte obávat, že by naši Švédové nějak vyměkli nebo nedej bože (či satane) koketovali s heavy metalem. Prostě přesně takto má znít prvoligový melodický death metal švédské školy. V neposlední řadě potěší fakt, že se skupina snaží vytrvale vychytat každý detail, o čemž svědčí experimenty se zvukem a produkcí. Opět zvolili odlišné studio a producenta a jedním dechem dodávám, že zvuk domácího studia Fascination Street pod taktovkou Jense Bogrena je prostě úžasný.
Naprosto skvělá vypalovačka je trojka "Asator". Jedná se o nejrychlejší flák na CD s pěkným kytarovým sólíčkem v půli skladby. Asi nejemocionálnější považuji čtyřku "Hermod’s Ride to Hel - Lokes Treachery Part 1". S přimhouřením oka lze hovořit o death metalové baladě. Výtečné melodické kytary zcela dominují, na chvíli vykouknou šťavnaté riffy. Dech skupině nedochází ani v druhé půli alba. Upozornil bych třeba na titulní "With Oden on Our Side". Tato skladba nás doslova tlačí kupředu do bitevní vřavy, bicí ani na sekundu nepoleví, kytary pánů Olavi Mikkonena a Johana Söderbera opět kouzlí barevné a současně velice příjemné melodie. V "Cry of the Black Birds" skupina trochu více experimentuje s kytarovými melodiemi. Ostatně celkově závěr alba patří podobně jako u CD "Once Sent from the Golden Hall" táhlým melodickým opusům. V "Under the Northern Star" opět vyniknou doslova čarokrásná sólíčka a v úplném závěru "Prediction of Warfare" se nemohu zbavit příjemného mrazení za krkem. Přestože Johan nesleví ze svého deathového murmuru, velmi umně ho variabilně přizpůsobuje náladě dané skladby, proto zní pokaždé jinak. Je vidět, že i v extrémním vokálním projevu je prostor pro širší vyjádření.
Verdikt na toho CD je velice prostý: AMON AMARTH nahráli zcela epochální desku a to nejen v rámci melodického death metalu. O to víc potěší, že se tak děje v současnosti, kdy se zdá, podobně laděným spolkům spíše dochází dech. Konkurenci tak hodili rukavici, jež se bude přetěžko zvedat.
